The 18 week pathway fom referral to start of treatment is going to be a major challenge for us all to meet by 2008. In this area we hope to work with the 18 week team and produce guidance and case studies that are specific to short stay surgery.

If you know of good examples of success within day surgery that you would be willing to share then please contact us via the BADS Office.

You can click on the 18 week banner above and it will take you directly to the 18 Week website.

Jenny Bareham, Head of Service Transformation with the national 18 Week Team at the Department of Health spoke at our recent Annual Scientific Meeting. For those who missed this you can follow the link below to hear the presentation.

The move to 18 Week Pathways can be helped by using the wealth of information that is available on the 18 Weeks website and also information available from the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement. The Institute has published a series of documents from its Delivering Quality and Value team based on high volume procedures within the NHS. One of these is Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy and the document Focus on:Cholecystectomy is an excellent place to start when discussing changes to the management pathway for this procedure.

We were fortunate to have Mr Colin Bunce and Mrs Jill Solly present on this pathway at our annual meeting. Click on the link below to hear their presentation.
