Instructions for new users
Welcome to our new look discussion forum. It uses a design that is popular amongst websites and those who have used these elsewhere will have no problems finding their way around. There is an FAQ area that explains many of the finer points of how to post.
However those who are not used to using these areas or had only used our previous discusson area may find it a little daunting. We have therefore provided this page with some simple instructions on how to get started.
The first thing to understand is that you have to Register with the BADS Forum Area before you will be allowed to post a question or an answer on the site. This is separate from the registration for the BADS website. To do this look at the top right of the screen and you will see these menus.
Click on the Register button and you will then be presented with a privacy form and the conditions of using the Forum area. Please read these and then click on the Agree button at the bottom.
The next screen you see will be
You must fill in your email address twice to check that you have not made an error. You can choose to allow people registered on the forum to be able to send you an email with the button underneath. This is set to default to Yes which is what most users decide.
User Name This is the name that you will be known by on the forum, some people choose to use a nickname, others just use their normal name. This will also serve as your login name. If you choose a name that is already in use you will be told to try again.
Password Choose a password that you will remember.
Firstname and Surname are self explanatory
Signature you do not have to complete this section and you can always come back to it at a later date. This allows you to automatically add a 'signature' to the bottom of every post. This may be a favourite saying or even a picture.
Country again self explanatory
Here is an example of a completed form.
When you have completed the form then click on Submit button and if all is correct a screen will come up congratulating you for joining. You can then logon to the forum. Fill in your username and password and click on Login. You should then be logged onto the forum and a welcome as below on the top right of your screen
You do not need to logout and logon each time you visit. As long as you do not click on logout at the end of your visit then the next time you click on forum you should still be logged in.
The other menu choices
Home - takes you back to the BADS website
Profile - allows you to update your profile e.g. change your signature
Active topics - this is really for a busy forum and is unlikely to be needed
Members - gives you basic details of everyone who has joined the forum
Search - allows you to search the forum for any specific area you are interested in
FAQ - frequently asked questions about how to use the forum learn how to post here
Finally there is an area termed Testing Forums, feel free to go there and practice posting before posting on the main discussion area.
