BADS Directory of Procedures

The BADS Directory of Procedures was first introduced in 2006. Each procedure is listed against 4 possible headings - these are divided between two possible treatment areas for true day surgery and then two further lengths of stay options as shown below.

There are a few important points to be considered by all who use this directory. BADS continues to promote excellence as a keystone to success in short stay surgery and so is providing goals that are achievable in appropriate circumstances. Some procedures require longer recovery or observation times and so are only possible as a true day case if performed on morning sessions. Others may require specialised equipment and training for clinicians to achieve their full potential.

Therefore the achievement of these goals may require reconfiguration of day surgery lists, redesign of the clinical pathway and investment in appropriate technology.

We have taken the top procedures for each specialty and provided OPCS 4.4 inclusion and exclusion codes and then HRG coding in the final column.
